Join us for an enjoyable workshop- The Art of Mala Making             Saturday  March 4, 1-5pm

with Buddhist nun Kelsang Kalden and Kris Fletcher

A mala is a string of beads used to count prayers or mantra recitations. For Buddhist practitioners, a mala is a precious and meaningful object. This workshop is a special opportunity to learn how to make a mala according to traditional Buddhist techniques. The session will start with an explanation of both the spiritual and practical aspects of making a mala and powerful spiritual meaning behind mantra recitation.

Mantra is a Sanskrit word meaning “mind protection.” Reciting mantras protects the mind from ordinary appearances and conceptions, drawing us closer to Buddha’s good qualities and allowing us to be more calm and peaceful. Learn the beading techniques to make a traditional Buddhist mala and begin your practice of mantra recitation.

Enjoy a meaningful afternoon making malas with spiritual friends. You will learn the meaning of Buddhist prayer beads and how to make a mala for yourself or the Center shop. Beads, and all other materials will be available, but you can also bring your own beads to use if you wish.

The workshop will be co-taught by Kelsang Kalden and Kris Fletcher
